Akupara, a home and lifestyle brand was founded in 2022 by Palak Singh with the motive of sharing stories and documenting cultural identities of places she has called home. A nostalgic iteration of the world she experienced around her. She grew up in multiple places, and the semblance of home to her came from the people she met rather than concrete structures. She finds solace in the ordinary and minimal, products that add value and warmth to a place without hovering over it.

The world bearing turtle, AKUPARA appears in multiple mythologies across the globe. It is believed that the earth rest on four elephants, who further are supported on the back of a turtle, this turtle forms a strong stable base for our world.

Akupara is the symbol of feminine energy which provides Stability - स्थिरता, the elephants are symbolic of masculine strength. The amalgamation and union of both provides the perfect balance which is required to hold our home planet upright.

Akupara in sanskrit translates to Limitless

A turtle lives a long and slow life, breathing everything in, taking conscious pauses, holding the wisdom of the world and yet yearning to learn more. May we as a brand strive follow the footsteps of our precious mascot.

As a brand, the process and structure of story telling, the little details that help form our individual aesthetic, is what intrigues us about design.

What makes a product relevant, the associations of it in our daily lives and its cultural value and significance are questions we continuously ask ourselves. We find beauty in simple things, things built by hand, lost stories about people and places.

Our homes are where we experience a huge part of our lives, it is almost like a small incapsulation of our entire world. A safe space to unwind and relax.

Through our brand we hope to bring about the feeling of a warm, endless hug from a loved one.

We aim to build Akupara as a collaborative platform where crafts overlap and interlink, a space where lost stories are given centre stage.

To develop products in parallel with impeccable quality and craftsmanship, as we revisit traditional crafts with an essence of minimalism.

We endeavour to travel and study the anthropology of places and further translate it in our design practices, to mature with time and fine tune our design methodologies to bring forward  better.
